The first winter Olympics was in 1924, in Chamonix, France. There are games in modern winter Olympics such as Cross-country skiing, Figure skating, Ice hockey, Nordic combined, Ski jumping, Speed skating, and Snowboarding. My personal favorite is speed skating. Modern and ancient winter Olympics are very interesting because of how different the two are, because of how advanced the Olympics have gotten, and because of how competitive and intense the games are. First, Ancient Olympics were very different than the modern Olympics. Furthermore, the ancient Olympics were begun because it was dedicated to the Olympian Gods.(Bill and David) I think they did this to show a kind of worship to the Gods. Also, the first Olympics were traced back to 776 B.C.(Bill and David) There could possibly have been games before that but that was as far back as they could trace. Further, the games were held on the ancient plains of Olympia.(Bill and David) They were most likely held there because they thought it was the best place for worshiping the Gods. Additionally, the medals were given to the winners immediately after the competition.(Bill and David) They would only give the medal to the winner and the loser would receive nothing. The ancient Olympics differ much more than you think. Second, the modern Olympics are much more advanced and different. To repeat, Some games in the modern Olympics include Cross-country skiing, Figure skating, Ice hockey, Nordic combined, Ski jumping, Speed Skating, and Snowboarding. They did not have these type of games back then or they weren’t the same and were much less advanced. In fact, the first modern winter Olympics was in 1924, in Chamonix, France.(Jenkins) The modern games are much older than you would expect. Along with that, Medals were handed out to the winners. Colors of medals include Gold being best, silver being second, and bronze being last.(Jenkins) The modern Olympics have many differences compared to the ancient Olympics. Third, I find speed skating the most appealing. Specifically, I like it because it is fast and intense competitiveness and it can change at any moment. Speed skating looks very easy but I know it is very hard and takes lots of practice. Unfortunately, China is usually predicted to win. China is a very good and a hard to compete against team. Speed skating is a very interesting and fun Olympic game. To conclude, Ancient Olympics and Modern Olympics are very different. Modern and ancient Olympics are very interesting because of how different the two are, because of how advanced the Olympics have gotten, and because of how competitive and intense the games are. Olympic games have always been around ever since the Olympian Gods and hopefully will always be around in the future.
